"Join our team as a Fireline Paramedic - Wildland Support and become a valuable part of our dedicated crew that provides crucial medical assistance to firefighters and support teams during wildfire incidents. Your role will involve working on 4x4 ambulances, 4x4 mobile treatment centers, UTVs, and mobile medical units (clinics) to evaluate injuries and provide essential emergency medical care. We're in search of knowledgeable and diligent Paramedics who are ready to make a difference in demanding and dynamic environments."
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patient Transportation: Transport injured or sick individuals from the fireline to fire camps or medical facilities.
- Medical Assessment: Determine the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish appropriate first aid procedures.
- On-Site First Aid: Administer prescribed first-aid treatment at the site of emergency or within specially equipped vehicles.
- Medical Knowledge: Apply your knowledge of pathophysiology and related disease processes in treating acute patients.
- Equipment Care: Maintain and care for your equipment and vehicle by performing daily, weekly, and monthly checks, and promptly reporting any issues.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively and build interpersonal relationships with medical unit leaders and other interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical Experience: Preferred experience in ambulance and EMS services.
- Wilderness Medicine: Preferred experience in wilderness medicine.
- Adaptability: Ability to work independently and comfortably in a wilderness setting.
- Self-Driven: Self-motivated to gain expertise in the nuances of the fire industry.
- Calm Under Pressure: Demonstrated ability to stay composed in stressful situations and coordinate multiple resources as needed.
- Organizational Skills: Proficient in staying organized and following a chain of command, including Incident Command System (ICS) procedures.
- Trustworthiness: Reliable, trustworthy, and forthcoming in all responsibilities.
- Availability: Capable of working 14-21 consecutive days.
- Camping Skills: Willing and able to camp out and sleep in a tent.
REQUIREMENTS BEFORE HIRE:
- Paramedic Licensing: Hold a California Paramedic License
- Medical Certifications: Possess current BLS, ACLS, and PALS Certification.
- Driving: If you have a California driver's license, you must have an Ambulance Driver's Certification and a Clean Driving Record.
- Training: Attend our Fireline EMS Refresher in April 2024 (invitations will be sent after the first interview).
- Safety Certification: Complete Incident Safety Awareness for the Hired Vendor Class and RT-130 | Wildland Fire Safety Annual Refresher during our Fireline EMS Refresher.
- Physical Fitness: Pass the NWCG Work Capacity Test at the arduous level, which involves a 3-mile walk under 45 minutes while carrying a 45-pound pack, available in-house during our Fireline EMS Refresher.
REQUIREMENTS BEFORE FIRST DAY OF WORK:
- Firefighter Training: Complete the online S-130 - Firefighter Training and S-190 - Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior courses.
- Incident Command System: Complete online courses, including ICS - 100, ICS - 200, ICS - 700, and ICS - 800, introducing you to the Incident Command System and National Incident Management System.
